We’re on our way out of Eugene, OR to the southwest coast of Washington state (Cape Disappointment…hopefully it doesn’t live up to it’s name) after an incredible couple days with my Aunt Sarah. It was a whirlwind visit but a great chance to catch up with family. Wonderful hand-picked berries, BBQ with white-haired hippies, bike rides across town, and awesome legal (and illegal) fireworks shows. My extended family hasn’t spent much time together since my grandparents died so spending time with my aunt and cousin really meant a lot to me; rehashing stories about Grandma Idella and Grandpa Daddy Jim and crazy, large family camping trips. In the end, my aunt reminded me so much of my grandmother (a complement in my book… I have great memories of both grandparents) that I inadvertently called her “Grandma”… oops She sent us off this morning with tummies full of turnovers and tupperwares brimming with fresh berries.
To catch up on the past week… the move to Berkeley from LA went off without a hitch. We unloaded our crap into our SWEET little one-bedroom love nest in record time and didn’t really know what to do with ourselves after we finished EVERYTHING THAT NEEDED TO GET DONE… it’s a WEIRD feeling that Dave and I are still getting used to… not having anything that needs to get done. Our new place in Berkeley is perfect… lots of good walking and plenty of space. More pictures to come in August.
We spent a couple days in Davis with my mom being lazy (of which Davis is notorious), catching up on CSI and watching some pretty horrid disaster movies. And then we were off, heading up the 5 (and, yes, I preface highways with “the,” it’s a habit, get over it) to Eugene and onwards…

We got to pick our own strawberries and blackcaps (very similar to the common raspberry) at a local, family-owned organic farm. How very “Eugene” of us!

• Redding is much less scenic after spending 30 minutes in the In N Out there
• The large mountain that looks like a hill in front of you IS Mt. Shasta
• If you’re puzzled and have questions, you can call God directly at 1-800-HIS-WORD
• Oregon doesn’t really look that different from California… except the people on the road are older and whiter
